WHAT IS SALT?
Named after the pa‘akai (‘Ōlelo Hawai‘i for “salt”) ponds that once dotted the low-lying wetlands of this area, SALT at Our Kaka‘ako is Honolulu’s epicenter for local culture, food, shopping and innovative events. Comprising of 85,000 square-feet of curated retail, restaurant and mixed-use space, SALT is a dynamic city block designed for exploration and engagement.
The open design of SALT is inspired by Kaka‘ako’s history and re-imagined for Honolulu’s future. The adaptive re-use of existing structures, open-air concepts and modern design gives SALT a lively, pedestrian-friendly feel. Best of all, SALT supports Kamehameha Schools’ mission of furthering the education of Hawaiian children. SALT is a special gathering place that embodies the urban, island culture of the emerging Our Kaka‘ako neighborhood.
